How to Improve Your Power

Power and strength are different. Power is strength in action. And developing explosive power with plyometrics and explosive lifting will improve athletic performance.

Researchers demonstrate that regardless of age and physical conditioning, a total fitness plan should have exercises to improve power and develop fast twitch muscle fiber.

Building Power with Plyometrics & Explosive Lifting Exercises

Power and strength are different. Power is strength in action. And developing explosive power with plyometrics and explosive lifting will improve athletic performance. Building strength should be done three times a week with Plyometrics done at least one time per week.

Plyometric drills typically involve jumping, skipping, and hopping but may be performed at lower intensity as long as the exercise is a fast movement involving a pre-stretched muscle followed by a quick and powerful shortening of a muscle (contraction).

Explosive lifting works for adults of all ages. Using heavy loads during explosive resistance training may be the most effective strategy to achieve simultaneous improvements in muscle strength, power, and endurance in older adults.

In numerous new studies, researchers show that older adults respond better to rapid – rate- of –force movements, and this type of training can be performed safely at older ages. Explosive lifting is the most successful training strategy for older adults.

Benefits from Performing Plyometric Drills and Explosive Lifting

There is recent research that shows you can reset your biological clock by naturally producing human growth hormone (HGH) through high intensity exercises. In order to perform these high intensity exercises you need to develop fast muscle fiber (IIa) and super-fast muscle fiber types.

Plyometric drills and Explosive Lifting are both excellent activities for developing fast muscle fiber (IIa) and super-fast muscle fiber types, which is essential in performing these anaerobic HGH releasing exercises.
